This program is a privately funded academic competition that uses your scores on the PSAT/NMSQT** (taken junior year) to qualify you for entry into a particular year’s competition conducted by NMSC. The highest scores are designated to receive recognition. Those who are designated semi-finalists and meet other academic standards may advance to the standing of finalist. Winners for Merit Scholarship will be chosen from this finalist group. There are three types of Merit Scholarships:
National Merit $2,500 Scholarships
Corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards
College-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards
Eligibility Requirements
A) Must be an enrolled full-time high school student, planning to enter college no later than the fall after high school graduation
B) Must be a citizen of the US, or a permanent resident of the US in the process of becoming a US citizen
C) Must take the PSAT/NMSQT in the specified year of the high school program and no later than the third year in grades 9 through 12, regardless of grade classification or education pattern. Usually, test is taken during a student’s junior
